We exist to close a gap.
Mission-driven organizations in the Deep South consistently lack access to high-quality, culturally competent marketing strategy. The gap is sharpest for organizations led by and serving Black communities. Closing it is the work.
This Theory of Change and Purpose frames our vision at Creative Attitude to partner with mission-driven organizations to generate positive social impact in marginalized communities—particularly Black communities in Mississippi and the Deep South. We believe that organizations doing the most important community work deserve the same caliber of strategic marketing support that commercial enterprises receive, and that closing this gap is essential to amplifying their impact.
Creative Attitude is a Black woman-owned strategic marketing studio rooted in Jackson, Mississippi, currently structured as a member-managed limited liability company with a long-term vision of shared, worker-owner ownership. We serve purpose-driven businesses, nonprofits, and leaders ready to build powerful brands, engage the right audiences, and create measurable impact. Through a blend of strategy, storytelling, cultural intelligence, and execution, we help turn passion into progress and purpose into tangible results.
This Theory of Change clarifies why we exist, our impact goals and our plan to reach them, key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure progress of transformation, and potential unintended outcomes.
The Problem
Mission-driven organizations—nonprofits, social enterprises, government programs, and community-based organizations—operating in Mississippi and the Deep South face a critical gap: they consistently lack access to high-quality, culturally competent marketing strategy. This gap is particularly acute for organizations led by and serving Black communities.
The consequences of this gap are significant:
- Organizations with transformative missions struggle to communicate their impact effectively, limiting their ability to attract funding, build public support, and sustain operations.
- Communities that stand to benefit most from these organizations’ work remain underserved because the organizations themselves cannot reach the right audiences with the right messages.
- The broader marketing industry often overlooks or undervalues mission-driven work, treating it as lower-priority compared to commercial clients. When mission-driven organizations do access marketing support, it frequently comes without the cultural understanding necessary to communicate authentically across communities.
- Black-owned businesses and nonprofits in the South face compounding barriers—limited access to capital, smaller professional networks, and historic underinvestment—that make sophisticated marketing feel out of reach.
The result is a cycle where the organizations doing the most important community work have the least capacity to amplify their impact through strategic communication.
The Solution
We exist as a remedy to this problem. Our purpose at Creative Attitude is to partner with mission-driven organizations to generate positive social impact in marginalized communities. We do this by providing sophisticated, culturally competent marketing strategies to the nonprofits, social enterprises, and community organizations that need it most—ensuring their transformative work reaches the communities they serve and the audiences that can support it.
We implement relevance toward realizing our purpose by taking the following actions:
- Providing strategy-first marketing partnerships to nonprofits, social enterprises, and community organizations working to uplift Black communities in Mississippi and beyond, closing the gap between mission and message.
- Building toward a shared-ownership business structure over time, modeling the equitable business practices we advocate for—ensuring that the people doing the work have ownership, voice, and shared prosperity.
- Prioritizing culturally competent, community-rooted communication that reflects the lived experiences of the communities our clients serve, bringing authentic Southern, Black perspective to every engagement.
- Making sophisticated marketing strategy accessible to organizations that have historically been priced out of or overlooked by traditional agencies, through flexible engagement models and mission-aligned pricing.
- Investing in the next generation of marketing professionals through mentorship—through volunteer mentorship and partnerships with educational organizations serving HBCU students and emerging professionals in marketing and advertising.
- Directing business to Black- and Brown-owned suppliers and B Corp-certified vendors, ensuring our operational spending reflects our values and creates positive ripple effects throughout our supply chain.
- Leveraging thought leadership on social justice issues in Mississippi and the Deep South to mobilize community awareness and collective action through our digital platforms and content.
The Outcome
In the long term, we aim to create a landscape where mission-driven organizations in the South—particularly those led by and serving Black communities—have the strategic communication capacity to fully realize their missions. We leverage the relevance of our operations to effect meaningful transformation through a focus on the following impact areas:
- Equitable Access to Marketing Expertise
- Community Investment & Economic Empowerment
- Industry Transformation & Thought Leadership
